Diego Costa left Atlético Madrid for Chelsea two seasons ago, but the Colchoneros never forgot him and have always maintained that he would be welcome back if he ever decided to return. Fair enough; Chelsea have a similar policy for many of our heroes as well.
But over the past few months, Atlético Madrid president Enrique Cerezo has taken things up a notch with his public onslaught via the Spanish media regarding his efforts at repatriating their former player. But despite his and Atleti manager Diego Simeone's deepest desires, Costa remains a Chelsea player, and shall remain one for the foreseeable future.
Cerezo's probably not one to admit defeat, so this may be as close as we get in that regard.
"Diego is a great player, who is very much loved, but he is a Chelsea player. The issue is as it was six months ago or even a year ago, he is a Chelsea player. I've always said that Costa is a Chelsea player and has a contract with Chelsea. That's the end of this issue."
"The day we have a number nine we will announce it. We are looking for one and once we have him, we will announce it."

A slight change of tact, to be sure, after Chelsea's warnings.
Until the next round of rumors then, right?
