Manchester United make approach for underperforming Chelsea midfielder — report

Rumors of Mourinho going after Nemanja Matic popped up even before The Once-Special One was appointed as Manchester United manager.  We laughed them off then, but now here comes The Oracle of Di Marzio to pontificate along similar lines.

There is no further detail beyond that in the full report either, and so far this approach has been limited to an "initial contact" between the two clubs over the 27-year-old.

It strikes me as rather crazy for Mourinho to dip into the Chelsea well for any of the players who so famously betrayed all his hard work this season, but things don't always make sense in Silly Season.  Matić struck a distinctly unhappy figure towards the end of the season, having dropped down in the pecking order behind John Obi Mikel, so perhaps it wouldn't be too surprising to see him leave.  For what it's worth, 75% of the community voted to keep Matić in our season review.

With Chelsea being linked with several enticing midfielders, we could be in for some major changes in the middle of the pitch after two-and-half seasons of GeneralSpiderBeast Matić.
