Romelu Lukaku's cryptic "we'll see" -- said with a smile -- when quizzed about his potential Everton departure and subsequent Chelsea return is just the beginning of what could be a long drawn-out summer transfer drama. Though if Lukaku's father is to be believed, the kid's future could be sorted in the next couple weeks, before the start of the European Championships in France.
In any case, here's ESPN's Miguel Delaney with his "sources" adding fresh fuel to this already burning fire.
Romelu Lukaku wants to go back to Chelsea this summer, sources close to the player have told ESPN FC, with the Blues already favourites for his signature if he leaves Everton.
Lukaku now apparently believes that "he can command a regular place" in the starting lineup (no more whoa, what's happening here?) while Lukaku-idol Didier Drogba's potential return to the Bridge in a non-playing role after the MLS season ends is also brought up as a positive factor.
With constant rumors attributing unhappiness to Diego Costa (even though he's always said otherwise), there is a better than non-existent possibility that we end up with a new first-choice striker for next season. We could certainly do worse than Lukaku -- his price tag may be high (£60-65m), but he's young, fun to watch when in full flight, and ostensibly still has room to improve.
