According to Sky Sports, AS Roma have shown interest in acquiring Chelsea attacking midfielder Charly Musonda on a short-term loan deal in January.

The Belgian youngster, whose loan at Real Betis will be officially cut short in January, was seen at Stamford Bridge yesterday sitting next to Diego Costa watching our game against Bournemouth, having returned to Chelsea to recuperate from a knee injury.

Roma are looking for a replacement on the wings for former Chelsea player Mohamed Salah, as the Egyptian will join his national team to play the Africa Cup of Nations starting next month. Seen as a "like-for-like" substitute, Musonda will have big shoes to fill in since Salah has scored 9 goals and given 6 assists across 21 games for the Giallorossi this season.

The AFCON is scheduled to take place from January 14th to February 5th; with players joining up ahead of time for preparations, Salah’s set to miss at least five, maybe even six games across the Serie A and the Coppa Italia combined. This run of games could be enough for Musonda to prove himself worthy of holding a place in their starting eleven once Salah returns. Still, a move to such a high-profile club comes with a high risk of being yet another waste of precious time for his career.
