As Chelsea fans across the world and the Twitters debate the merits of spending far too much money on one player not named David Luiz, a tiny little rumor slipped in under the radar as well.
#Chelsea have an offer of £42million on the table to tempt Bayern Munich midfielder Arturo Vidal to move to Stamford Bridge. [Express]

Wait, that’s not tiny at all!
The story is the usual drivel about Vidal wanting a new challenge or some such, with a minimum requirement of Champions League football, etc, etc. The price is perhaps reasonable enough for today’s market; we would even have money left over from the Oscar sale!
The trouble isn’t the far-fetched sentiments peddled by the likes of the Express or Goal UK, it’s that they’re just picking up what Don Balon is putting down. And if there is one source in all of football media who delight audiences with a ridiculous amount of sensational and vastly inaccurate transfer rumors, it’s Don Balon.
Here’s a curated selection of players linked with Chelsea by Don Balon over the past year or so:
- Sergio Aguero
- James Rodriguez (in 2015)
- James — Hazard swap (in 2015)
- Alexis Sanchez (Jan 2016)
- Sergio Ramos
- Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang
- Angel Di Maria
- Steven N’Zonzi
- Karim Benzema
- Luis Muriel
Not a bad haul for twelve months of work. How would we finance this all? By selling Diego Costa to Inter for £50m of course! LOL.
(Disclaimer: on the other hand, is anything too outrageous for football these days?)
