Chelsea are about to beat several top clubs in Europe to the highly coveted signature of Rangers prospect Billy Gilmour. This is according to ESPN, who claim to have confirmed it with sources at both clubs. Along with Chelsea, Arsenal, Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Manchester City and Manchester United (phew!) were also believed to be interested in the youngster.

Although Gilmour's current deal is set to expire at the end of the season, Chelsea have made a £500,000 bid now, instead of paying a tribunal-set compensation fee later.

The 15-year-old midfielder has impressed in his performances at club level as well as for the youth ranks of Scotland's national team over the course of the year. According to our friends at SB Nation’s Got the Battle Fever On, Gilmour is “one of the brightest” prospects to come through at the club. Accordingly, Rangers boss Mark Warburton is hoping to keep hold of the wonderkid, urging him to resist making an Islam Feruz-sized mistake.
