John Terry to be offered 'mega-deal' to play in Chinese Super League — report

My interest was piqued when the tweet brought to my attention came from the BBC.  "John Terry will reportedly be offered £8m a year to play for Guangzhou Evergrande, for whom he is an ambassador," says the BBC! There could be real meat behind this story!

Alas, the "reportedly" part actually refers to the BBC teasing their rumor round-up with this specific story.  The actual rumor comes from the Daily Mail and, come to think of it, it's nothing we haven't heard of before.  John Terry's expiring contract and the will-he, won't-he saga of a contract renewal with Chelsea has been a story in each of the last four seasons, so here we go again.

Except this year, JT might actually call an end to his Chelsea career, especially the current pattern of his involvement continues.  Old soldiers never die, they just fade away, as the saying goes.  And what better way to fade away than to the tune of £8m a year to go and play over in Canton for former Chelsea boss Big Phil Scolari for a team who have won the Chinese Super League six years running?

The longer-term future of Terry certainly appears to be pointing towards a coaching career, but if he's not quite ready to call it quits just yet on playing, this seems like a win-win.
