Weekend rumors: Aubameyang 'set to leave' BVB; Barcelona to bid for Chelsea loanee

New, comments

Two of the more juicy rumors from the last day or so involve one possible incoming and one possible outgoing transfer, though neither is likely to happen.  But hey, what else are we going to talk about?

PIERRE-EMERICK AUBAMEYANG

Borussia Dortmund's ridiculously talented striker has improved from 16 to 25 to 39 (!!!) goals scored in the last three years, and has 7 in all competitions so far this season.  While it may be a bit surprising that he's already 27 (i.e. just a year younger than Diego Costa), P.E.A. has been one of Europe's best strikers for a few years now.  Accordingly, he's attracted the interest of Europe's elite, most of whom have more money at their disposal than BVB.  Aubameyang has stayed put so far, but according to the Mirror, he's now set to leave.

The Mirror quote £65m for the Gabonese international, which seems to be the going rate for the best of the best.  Chelsea certainly can afford that much (especially if Costa were to leave), but convincing P.E.A. to choose us over other options like Manchester City would be anything but straightforward.

ANDREAS CHRISTENSEN

We've known for a while that Gladbach would be willing to set a new club transfer record to acquire the Chelsea loanee on a permanent basis, but now it appears that Barcelona may be keeping tabs as well.  This one's from The Sun, so all the usual caveats apply, but as one of the top young ball-playing center back prospects in football, Christensen should indeed command the interest of most teams.

Of course, they are free to line up whatever they want; there's no chance Chelsea will be selling.  (I hope.)  Christensen may be having a bit of sophomore slump so far this season at Gladbach — and he certainly did not cover himself in much glory on Saturday vs. Poland — but at just 20 years of age, the sky is the limit for him.
