While Chelsea have seemingly managed to sort out the defensive issues plaguing the team at the start of the season, notching back-to-back clean sheets since switching to the a three center-back look, it is believed that the club are still actively looking to add more defenders to the squad. Rumours in France claim that one of the names Chelsea have been interested in has been Brazilian defender Dória, who’s been an Olympique Marseille player since 2014.

The young player spoke to French TV channel Canal+ on the rumours, claiming that he's happy to be linked with Chelsea, but that he will continue to work towards having a good season at Marseille.

"Yes, I heard about it through social media. But I think that I need to continue to do my work. [...] I don’t know [if it is true]. I found out about it like you did."

"But that should not stop one from dreaming, they are one of biggest clubs in Europe. I am happy about these rumours, but what is most important is to continue [to] playing well."

It’s taken a couple years for the now 21-year-old to establish himself at OM. After his arrival (by which time he had collected a Brazil cap), he spent a half season in the reserves, a half season on loan back in Brazil, then a season out on loan at Granada where he barely played, thus putting the brakes on what was once a highly promising career. But he seems to be getting back on track, and has started at centre back in 8 of 9 Ligue 1 games so far this season.

While Dória could be a good addition to Chelsea given his age and skills that haven't reached their plateau yet, and there is no such thing as having too much talent in the team, this kind of purchase always brings the risk of blocking the path to the first team for own prized youngsters in the same position.
