Chelsea have only one healthy, experienced goalkeeper on the books at the moment, while Thibaut Courtois continues to recover from meniscus surgery which is expected to sideline the Belgian until December. According to Gianluca DiMarzio, that number will double on Wednesday, with the player expected to finalize his deal with the Blues in London.
Former AC Milan and Italy keeper Marco Amelia has been trialing with Chelsea, who are reportedly looking for an experienced keeper to back up Asmir Begovic while Courtois is recovering. Amelia would fit the bill, as he's currently out of contract, and available to be registered with Chelsea as a result.
Amelia will likely collect a nice little paycheck to train with the Blues, but unless Begovic is injured or suspended, it seems unlikely that he'll ever play for the Blues. Unfortunately for Jamal Blackman, this isn't a great endorsement from Jose Mourinho, if he's looking at other options for such a short period of time.
