Cristian Cuevas hasn't been making great progress in his Chelsea career to date -- his last loan wasn't even on the right continent -- but the 20-year-old's been given another chance to prove himself. The Blues have confirmed that he's heading to Sint-Truidense, who were promoted to the Jupiler League at the end of last year, on a season-long deal.
The Belgian pro league isn't exactly the most promising in which to develop prospects, but we already have a success(ish) story from their ranks in Thorgan Hazard, who went on to do well with Borussia Monchengladbach in the Bundesliga, so I'm not as wary of the loan as I might otherwise be. Obviously I have no idea what their fullback situation is, but hopefully Cuevas can settle in at this reasonably low level and make an impact. What he needs now is playing time wherever he can find it, and if he's too good for the Jupiler League ... well, he needs to prove it.
