On Friday, we saw reports that Chelsea had made a substantial bid for Everton defender John Stones. The Toffees' manager, Roberto Martinez, didn't seem pleased to be speaking about those rumors following the club's pre-season match against Arsenal on Saturday:
Martinez on possible Stones sale: "There is no issue from our point of view , John Stones is our player and we are not a selling club."

Martinez hits out at Chelsea : "It is a disappointment to see a club make comments to the press about our player with regards to a bid."

Marrtinez adds : " That is not how we would do it. We don't comment to the press on players that are registered with other clubs."

I'm not surprised that Martinez is irritated, as even though Stones said all the right things following the leak yesterday, there's still no good that can come of the reports from Everton's perspective. That said, I'm not an Everton fan, so I really don't care if the leak actually came from Chelsea, instead of the player's agent, which seems equally plausible in this instance.
Fiorentina management has yet to weigh in on the matter, but may want another Chelsea player on loan before they'll give their approval.
