According to Get West London, Chelsea are on the verge of adding another prospect to the academy mix. 16-year-old Joseph Colley will apparently join up with the under-18s when the transfer window opens next month, having been tracked by the Blues since 2013.
It's not clear from the linked article what the club has paid current club Brommapojkarna in order to secure the defender's services, it's probably not going to be very much. If all goes well, Colley will presumably stay with the academy for a few years and them link up with the first team before heading out on loan.
Colley is unlikely to be the only young international signing we make this summer. The Chelsea academy is becoming something of a well-oiled machine, but it needs constant reinforcements and competition in order to keep pushing the youngsters. Hopefully all that will soon bear fruit, but we'll just have to see how it all goes.
In the meantime, I guess we wait until Colley's signing becomes official. Here's a pre-emptive welcome anyway.
