Chelsea are in the market for defensive depth this summer, with the Blues being linked to several options at center back. Among those players is Atletico Madrid center back/right back Toby Alderweireld, who spent last season on loan at Southampton.
On Tuesday, the Belgian was asked about his future ahead of his final match this season, a Euro qualifier against Wales:
"I will go back to Spain next week and we will talk. We will see what happens. I hope a decision will be made quickly, otherwise it will be all summer."
"I don't know if Chelsea are interested. I read it in the press. We'll see what is coming up and I will make the right decision. Now I go back to Spain, I think. That is the option now and we will see if clubs are coming and I will see what is a good decision for me."
Given his age, versatility, and performance last season, I'd be quite pleased to see Chelsea chasing Alderweireld. He'd also be relatively inexpensive, theoretically allowing the Blues to go all in on a bigger name in the midfield or wide forward positions.
