Filipe Luis: I plan to see out my Chelsea deal

The rumour mill has been swirling around Filipe Luis, who's had a difficult time making an impact at Stamford Bridge since his move from Atlético Madrid last summer. The Brazilian, currently away on international duty, has had no luck in forcing either Cesar Azpilicueta or Branislav Ivanovic out of the starting lineup, and has been linked with a return to Spain as a result.

But to hear him tell it, the defender's perfectly happy where he is.

I'm just focused on Chelsea, on working hard and giving my best in order to end the season with another important and beautiful trophy. Of course, everything can change in football, but I'm happy and have a three-year contract at Chelsea that I'd like to see out.

Mostly that amounts to a lengthy version of 'no comment', but it's not the sort of quote that sets alarm bells ringing for an imminent departure. Unless he steps his game up (or one of the other fullbacks has a collapse in form), Luis probably won't last longer than his three-year deal at Chelsea, but right now we have a perfectly cromulent backup and he's making perfectly cromulent money. No need to change that.
