Chelsea defender Tomas Kalas joins Middlesbrough on loan

Tomas Kalas is now officially a Middlesbrough player for the remainder of the 2014/15 season, after the club announced on Friday that the Chelsea player would spend the rest of the season in the Championship on loan. Kalas is expected to see more minutes in the Championship than he did in the Bundesliga, likely starting for the club as soon as this weekend.

Boro are touting the fact that Kalas can play both on the right and in the center of the defense, and given that both regular right back options are currently out with injury, I'd guess that the Czech international begins his loan spell solidifying the right side of the defense. It's hard to say if that's where he'll remain, or if he'll eventually partner Kenneth Omeruo in the center, but for now it's just nice to know that he's going to see plenty of time on the pitch.

Boro currently sit fourth in the Championship table, with 43 points from 24 fixtures.
