Jose Mourinho has now confirmed that Mark Schwarzer is, indeed, heading to Leicester City.
Mourinho: "First to publicly thank Mark Schwarzer because he is leaving us. Fantastic keeper. We'll miss the big guy & we wish him the best."
— Dan Levene (@BluesChronicle) January 4, 2015
The 42-year old keeper spent the past season and a half with Jose Mourinho's Blues, making 12 appearances for the club. The move will not net Chelsea a transfer fee, but will give them some very minimal wage relief going forward.
Schwarzer was Petr Cech's primary backup during the 2013/14 season, but after the return of Thibaut Courtois ahead of the 2014/15 campaign, it was a bit of a curious move when the Blues opted to resign him. Unsurprisingly, the Australian hasn't played yet this season, and has only made four total appearance on the Chelsea bench.
His departure all but confirms what we've been hearing prior to the window officially opening, that Cech will remain with the Blues until the summer transfer window as Courtois' primary backup.
