Reports claim Marco van Ginkel agrees to join AC Milan

Srdjan Stevanovic

According to Gianluca Di Marzio, Chelsea midfielder Marco van Ginkel has agreed to join AC Milan on loan. Here's what Di Marzio had to say on the situation:

Milan a continue to be very active in the last few days of the transfer window. After landing Torres, who will be in the stands at San Siro for the match against Lazio, the Rossoneri are ready to welcome Van Ginkel Also Who has agreed to join the Serie A club. The Dutch midfielder is expected in Italy in the last few hours.

Van Ginkel appears to be the unfortunate victim of a numbers crunch at Chelsea, who need to cut the squad to just 17 international players before September 2. After swapping Fernando Torres for new signing Loic Remy, Chelsea still stood at 18 players with the deadline fast approaching.

This should also be a chance for the young Dutchman to get some minutes in a fairly competitive league, something that would have been a real challenge at Chelsea with their fantastic squad this season. Had the player not lost the bulk of the 2013/14 season to a serious knee injury, he'd have likely had a much better chance to earn minutes in Jose Mourinho's side.
