Chelsea up their offer for Filipe Luis, according to reports

The Blues have upped their offer by 25%, according to Matt Lewis

Reports in London are suggesting that Chelsea have come back to Atletico Madrid with a new, improved bid for Brazilian left back Filipe Luis. Here's what he had to say on the matter:

Jose Mourinho is looking for a new left-back after allowing veteran Ashley Cole to Italian side Roma on a free transfer this summer.

He has already seen one bid of £12million knocked back by the Champions League finalists but today returned with an improved £15million offer after being encouraged by the player.

Given that Lewis has an impeccable track record with Chelsea dealings, I'd be more inclined to believe that we're not seeing a simple pound/euro mix up than if this story was running in The Mirror. I'd still be a bit surprised if Atletico agreed to that price, but I'd be confident that we've upped the offer.

Should Atletico continue to hold out for the full value of his release clause, it would be surprising to see Luis end up in a Chelsea shirt next season. It will be interesting to see who Jose Mourinho and Michael Emenalo have targeted as 'plan B'.
