Tiago Mendes close to rejoining Atletico Madrid, according to reports

Chelsea have been doing their best to sign the entire Atletico Madrid squad of late, but AS is reporting that one player strongly rumored to be leaving the Spanish capitol for London might not be making the switch after all. Here's what their report had to say:

Tiago Mendes is very close to re-signing terms with Spanish champions Atlético Madrid. The midfielder, who has spent the past three seasons at the Rojiblancos, had earlier opted not to extend his previous deal with the club, which expired on 30 June.

Convinced that he was set for a return to former club Chelsea, the 33-year-old had said his farewells to Atlético. However, the Premier League outfit have not pushed through with the deal, leaving him without a club.

I'm still of the opinion the Tiago would be nice depth on a one-year deal, but won't be overly fussed if the signing doesn't happen. I guess we'll have to wait an see.
