Atletico sign new keeper, Courtois return seems unlikely

It's really looking like Thibaut Courtois will be returning to Chelsea this season

According to many media outlets this morning, Atletico Madrid have agreed to a deal to bring Miguel Moya across town from Getafe on a three-year deal. That gives the reigning La Liga champions a proven goalkeeper who is plenty capable of being a first choice starter.

The addition of Moya certainly wouldn't end Atletico's interest in a reunion with Courtois, as though Moya is a solid option, he's nowhere near the level of either of their past two keepers. It seems unlikely that a guy like Moya would agree to leave Getafe to be a backup though, so the player most likely believes he's joining a bigger club with the chance to play. While he'll still have to compete for a job without Courtois, there wouldn't be a competition if the Belgian was returning.

As far as Chelsea fans are concerned, this is just another indicator that the club intends to bring Thibaut back to Stamford Bridge, as if they had any interest in loaning him out again, there's almost no chance he'd be heading anywhere other than Atletico. Hooray!
