Common sense would indicate that the next step in the ongoing Wayne Rooney transfer saga would be the player submitting a transfer request. That may or may not have actually happened yet, but if the Daily Mail are to be believed, the club has taken action against the England striker:
Wayne Rooney has been forced to train away from the first-team and with the reserves by Manchester United boss David Moyes. The England striker is determined to leave the club for a move to Premier League rivals Chelsea.
Rooney was the only senior player working with the reserves at the club's Carrington training ground, in a session taken by United coaches Warren Joyce and Nicky Butt.
The Chelsea target drove into training on Thursday morning expecting to link up with the first team as usual, but was switched to the reserves*.
*This last bit has since been editied by the Mail to read:
After the session, he said he requested to join the reserves session at Carrington, rather than play with the first-team.
If this report is accurate, it's certainly interesting news for Chelsea fans. The situation up north is certainly getting less comfortable for both the player and his club, and despite United seemingly not wanting to sell to the Blues, the situation there is becoming absolutely toxic.
With the United away game coming up in relatively short order, any sort of squad tension can only be a good thing for the Blues. Regardless of whether or not we add Wayne Rooney, the preseason isn't going very well for the defending champs, and that makes me happy.
