Jose Mourinho ends Chelsea's Wayne Rooney pursuit

The Blues may not be done shopping, but they won't be going back in for Wayne Rooney

It sounds as if Chelsea's pursuit of Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney is finally over. With just days remaining in the transfer window, Jose Mourinho was asked about the situation in the aftermath of tonight's game. He responded with the following:

"For all parties, it's finished. One thing is to tell you through other people that you want, you want, you want very much, but at the end of the day..."

"I feel everyone has the right to show his life, his future and I respect that."

Mourinho doesn't hide the fact that he feels the player could have helped force the issue, making it very clear that Chelsea had been told by the player's people that Rooney was interested in a move to London. That probably won't sit well with either his teammates or the fans, although if Rooney scores regularly for United, I'd imagine both parties will look the other way.

Regardless, I'd imagine our pursuit of Rooney is truly over, at least for the time being. It wouldn't surprise me at all to see us launch a new bid next summer, assuming the player and club don't kiss and make up before then.
