Last week, Willian was bound for Tottenham. Today, the player has put pen to paper on a brand new five-year deal to join the Blues. The club have announced this morning that all of the details remaining in Willian's transfer to Chelsea have been sorted, and the player has officially joined the club.
Early Wednesday we received confirmation from several outlets that Willian had been granted a work permit, and we had visual confirmation of his medical taking place over the weekend. All that left was for the player to put pen to paper, and that's now been finished as well. Willian will wear the number 22 jersey at Chelsea, despite being pictured in some number 21 training gear during his medical.
How Willian affects the rotation at Chelsea will be fascinating, and whether or not we begin to see Oscar and Kevin De Bruyne drop deeper will be as well. Whether or not this was an efficient use of funds remains to be seen, but there is little doubt that the signing increases the overall quality of the squad. Welcome to Chelsea Willian, and never cut that hair.
