Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho suggested yesterday that if Wayne Rooney didn't hand in a transfer request, that the odds of him ending up with the Blues this summer were slim. While the player, United, or the player's representatives are yet to make any sort of public statement on the matter, there are reports making the rounds from basically every major news outlet in England that the player won't be turning in that request:
Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney will not be handing in a transfer request, according to Sky sources
Given the fact that Wayne Rooney was probably the only attacking player for either side to impress yesterday, it's hard to imagine United actually agreeing to sell if he doesn't make it impossible to keep him. While these reports are by no means conclusive, the lack of any sort of comment from Rooney this summer would lead me to believe that none is likely coming.
The next several days are likely to see non-stop speculation over who our 'plan b' actually is, with loads of noise about a Samuel Eto'o move probably coming. If that sort of thing drives you nuts, you may want to avoid the TV and internet while turning off your phone. If endless transfer talk is something that you happen to love reading about, cancel all of your plans and glue yourself to the couch, because the next few days are going to be full of it. Hooray!
