Jose Mourinho was inevitably asked after today's game about the club's continued pursuit of a striker, and confirmed that the Blues will be active on that front in trying to add to their depth:
When asked re Rooney, Mourinho says "We will try until the last day to add a new player to the squad, a striker". "Not ethic" to name names

Mourinho on WR: " We don't speak to players. We speak to clubs. We don't influence players to behave in a certain way." Perish the thought

It's been Rooney or bust for the better part of a month now, but it's starting to look as if the club will be moving on from their primary target if United continue to be reluctant to sell. That's fine by me, as I've never really wanted to see the club commit that kind of money to an aging, declining player anyway, despite Mourinho's view that he fits very well with the system.
There are still plenty of good options out there if Chelsea really want to add to the mix, and it's certainly not limited to just Wayne Rooney or Samuel Eto'o. With just two weeks remaining in the summer transfer window, it will certainly be an interesting story to follow.
