Official: Mark Schwarzer joins Chelsea FC on a one-year deal

And with that, our pursuit of Norwich City's John Ruddy likely comes to an end

Ryan Pierse

Chelsea FC have just confired the addition of Mark Schwarzer on a one-year contract, via their official website. Schwarzer had the following to say about joining the West London club, via the club's website:

'It's a phenomenal club. It's one of the biggest and best clubs in the world, and it's an honour to sign for Chelsea. I didn't take much convincing to come here.'

I think most of us agree with you that you've managed to join a phenomenal club, and we're all absolutely thrilled to have you here. Form a personal standpoint I also love the signing, as it's the first time in a while we've signed a player that's older than me*.

*And it could very possibly be the last time I can ever say that

Welcome to Chelsea Mark, I really hope we don't use you very often, but I'm glad to have you as our safety net as opposed to Ross Turnbull. Hopefully you'll be able to ride off into the sunset with a Champions League winners medal around your neck, shortly after the parade to celebrate our second European title.
