So much for Patrick van Aanholt saying he was going to remain at Chelsea next season. Vitesse Arnhem have just announced that they'll be taking the left back on loan again for the upcoming season, marking the third straight year that the defender has spent time in the Eredivisie.
Van Aanholt joins Gael Kakuta, already loaned out to Vitesse this summer, but it's unlikely that he'll be partnering with fellow fullback Tomas Kalas once more. Although Van Aanholt and Kakuta impressed last season, Kalas is clearly on another level and will almost certainly be given a chance to step up.
It's likely that this move came about during the process of Chelsea acquiring Marco van Ginkel. It certainly didn't seem like another loan move was on the cards for van Aanholt a week ago, but things change quickly in football. Good luck to him in Holland.
