Florent Malouda gets out of the doghouse, joins Trabzonspor

Malouda joins the long list of former Blues now practicing their craft in Turkey

David Cannon

Florent Malouda spent the entire 2012/13 season training with the U21 side while fighting with the club about a potential move. Despite rumors of interest from Turkey, France, Russia, and Brazil, the club and player couldn't seem to come to any sort of agreement that would see the winger leave the club.

With Malouda's contract expiring in July, the player was free to find himself new club. He did so today, latching on with Turkish club Trabzonspor. Trabzonspor finished 9th in the league last season, but will have a chance to qualify for the Europa League due to reaching the Turkish Cup final (which was won by Fenerbache, who have been banned from European football this year).

Malouda had a few excellent seasons with the Blues, and was a key component to our last Premier League title. I'm sure I'm not alone in wishing Flo all the best in Turkey, where hopefully he'll get back to seeing regular time on the pitch soon.
