Napoli owner and purveyor of entertainment Aurelio de Laurentiis has confirmed that Chelsea are set for talks with the club over the transfer of Edinson Cavani. This is coming from plenty of sources, so let's pick James Horncastle because that lets us avoid any annoying Google translating:
De Laurentiis. "On Cavani, there's interest from Chelsea. They'll call me in the next few hours."— James Horncastle (@JamesHorncastle) June 6, 2013
So that's pretty exciting. The word from Italy right now is that Chelsea will have to match Cavani's (very high) release clause, which might not be the most sensible financial option but would still be fairly fun regardless. I don't think Manchester City, the Uruguayan's other primary suitor, have gotten this far with Napoli yet, so it sounds like we might have made our way into pole position on this transfer.
And no, I don't think they'll be at all interested in taking on Fernando Torres as a part exchange. Part exchanges don't activate buyout clauses (although it would be really funny if they did). If Chelsea want Cavani, they'll have to pay in cold, hard cash.
