All the loanees are coming home. Apparently. It's pretty difficult to interpret footballers through Twitter (remember last year, when some people still refused to believe that Eden Hazard was Chelsea bound despite him saying 'I'm going to the Champions League winners'?), but this from Patrick van Aanholt seems pretty clear:
"@LosAzulesFan: @PvanAanholt_ You going to be at Chelsea next year Patrick?"yes
— Patrick van aanholt (@PvanAanholt_) June 30, 2013
Hypothetically he could mean that he'll be part of the organisation and go on loan again, but that's a really weird reading of what was said, so I'm interpreting it as van Aanholt returning to the first team. With Ashley Cole, Ryan Bertrand and van Aanholt at left back, this should put an end to any thought that the Blues might pick up Luke Shaw. Instead, there'll be plenty of competition at the position. Cole's old brilliance is steadily dimming, and with both Bertrand and van Aanholt still young and improving, one of them might well make the most of the opportunity to unseat the veteran next season.
Should be interesting.
