Throughout the Edinson Cavani saga, the assumption has been that Chelsea are competing with Real Madrid and Manchester City. Indeed, one of the major motivations for the Blues to pursue the striker was in order to prevent City from acquiring one of the world's better players. But are City actually in for Cavani? Perhaps not:
De Laurentiis says Man City unwilling to spend €63m for Cavani

Note that that's not a denial that City could buy him, but rather that they don't have the will to pay Napoli's asking price. Are Chelsea? Are Real? De Laurentiis is mute on those points, although he's hinting that Cavani might be persuaded to stay in Naples.
That might not be a bad thing. If Chelsea don't have to worry about City snapping him up, Cavani becomes an even more difficult purchase to justify. His release clause is enormous, and we might expect his salary to be extremely high as well. He's a very good player, of course, but him staying at Napoli wouldn't be the end of the world. Unless he plays against us in the Champions League group stages and wins. That'd be super-annoying.
