Chelsea announced this morning that they have reached an agreement with Bayer Leverkusen over the transfer of German international Andre Schurrle. The club noted that personal terms still had to be agreed, but it's long been assumed that this agreement was already in place and simply waiting for the deal to become official.
So what exactly are we looking at paying for the German attacker? Let's turn things over to Kicker:
The German national player receives the Europa League winners a five-year contract with an annual salary of 4.8 million euros. Chelsea puts down 23 million euro transfer fee for Schurrle.
Converting that to pounds, the transfer fee would be 19.5 million. His weekly wage according to Kicker would be about 78k per week, adding up to an annual FFP hit of just under 8 million.
That's actually a fairly reasonable amount for an experienced German international who is about to enter his prime, despite what you may think about the need for Schurrle at Chelsea. Regardless of need though, it looks as if this one is about to be official.
