At the close of the January transfer window, Chelsea released six U18 and U21 players who were out of contract in June and weren't going to be offered a new deal at the London club. Conor Clifford was one of the most accomplished of those six, having even received a callup for the Irish national team (he went unused in the game).
According to Sky Sports, Clifford has now found a new home in the Championship. Sky are reporting that he has agreed to a deal with Leicester City, a deal lasting until the end of the season. The club started the weekend in the promotion playoff places, sitting fifth.
I'm actually a bit pleased that Clifford opted for such an aggressive short term deal, as an impressive showing could certainly help his chances of getting a long term deal in the upper divisions of English football. Here's hoping it goes well for him, and that he sees plenty of time on the pitch.
