Reports out of Chile have had the Cristian Cuevas to Chelsea deal being done for some time now, but today we have some quotes from the player himself indicating that the deal is definitely done. The youngster did a radio interview in which the move came up, and was quoted as saying the following:
"Everything went very quickly and everything was settled this week."
"Chelsea were following me for over a year and we have finally reached an agreement."
"I am already taking English classes so I can integrate quickly. It will be a big change. I could account for all the differences there were when I was there. But I am calm and very happy."
It's good to hear that the deal is done without being drawn into the summer window, as now management can turn their attention towards other targets. Cuevas won't be an immediate first team player, I'd assume that he'll begin playing for the U21 side if granted a work permit. If he isn't granted permission to play in England immediately, I'd assume he'd be a prime candidate to join a club abroad like Vitesse.
Cuevas will be another exciting young talent to watch at this summer's U20 World Cup, as he helped lead his Chilean side to the tournament this past month. It might also be worth a giggle to see him on the pitch with Islam Feruz, hopefully the pair manage to get along.
