Jack Butland will not be joining Chelsea at the moment despite the club having a bid accepted for his services, according to the BBC. We had a comment from his agent, Gary Mellor, last evening which confirmed that the clubs had agreed to a fee for the young keeper and Chelsea had been granted permission to talk to the player. This morning, the BBC had more from Mellor:
"Jack's enjoying playing for Birmingham and he is gaining valuable experience. He will listen to what any club that meets Birmingham's asking price has to say, but playing is of paramount importance for Jack."
We discussed Butland at some length yesterday, and it was always far easier to see why this move would be of interest for Chelsea than it would be for the player. At the moment t doesn't sound as if Chelsea will be able to overcome the issues for the player, so a move seems unlikely. With the transfer deadline now looming though, I'd imagine this will be far from the last news we hear on the matter.
