Despite Chelsea acquiring Demba Ba from Newcastle United early on in the transfer window, there are still many fans clamouring for the signing of Atletico Madrid's Radamel Falcao. And well they might -- the striker's been on fire this season, and the Blues could certainly do with more depth at centre forward.
But that fire will now be quenched, at least for a little while. The Colombian was forced off 57 minutes into Atletico's 2-0 win over Levante on Sunday with what appeared to be a hamstring injury. AS's headline is calling it a 'tear', which would be pretty terrifying for Atletico supporters, but it's not clear just how bad it is as yet. Falcao will be going in for scans this week.
Either way, this news bodes pretty poorly for anyone hoping that Chelsea would be making a play for him this January. A pull would rule him out for the next few weeks, by which time the window will have closed. Fun as it would be to pick up the striker this winter, signing an injured Falcao seems unwise enough to give even our board pause.
