Every Chelsea defeat is an existential crisis these days, so this weekend, at least we don’t have to wait too long to find our fates. Of course, that means that we would have the entire weekend to stew over this Saturday lunchtime result — though unlike our away record, where we’ve now lost five of six, our recent home record has been pretty good, with five straight wins in all competitions and just one defeat since late September.
And we could conceivably get a boost from a couple key players returning from injury, too (but not players returning from loan as Andrey Santos is with Brazil and David Datro Fofana is heading back out already). We won’t know for sure until Mauricio Pochettion addresses the media in a few hours, but the likes of Christopher Nkunku, Benoît Badiashile, Carney Chukwuemeka, and maybe even Ben Chilwell might be ready for at least a bit of bench or substitute duty.
All that said, we will need the level of execution to be markedly better than on Tuesday, regardless of who plays.
