It’s taken him just two starts, but young Đorđe (DJ) Petrović has already made himself a cult hero at Stamford Bridge, putting his massive frame to great use to save Matt Ritchie’s penalty in the shootout and seal our place in the semifinals of this season’s League Cup competition.

Petrović had hardly anything to do the rest of the game other than picking out the ball from the back of the net after we gifted a glorious opportunity and goal to Callum Wilson (quite a lovely finish from the striker on that, it should be noted), but he was alert to a tight-angle shot in stoppage time from fellow former MLS-er Miguel Almirón, just before our late-late equalizer.

DJ had quickly built himself a great reputation in MLS for saving penalties, saving 5 of the first 14 he had faced, so perhaps it’s not surprising at all that he’s started his Chelsea career in similar fashion. He’s kept it simple at the back with his passing, comfortable with his aerial control, and solid enough with his shot stopping. He signed with the expectation of challenging for the starting spot and Robert Sánchez might indeed have some competition now!

Captain Conor continues to put in the work with performances that are making all the transfer rumors about the club’s apparent desire to cash in (contrary to the head coach’s wishes, too) look sillier and sillier.

3. MYKHAILO MUDRYK (7.5, sub)

The Mudryk experience has been a rather underwhelming and frustrating one for much of 2023, but perhaps it’s this moment that will be the genesis of his ascendancy to the great heights we’re all expecting of him.
