Well aware of BK Häcken’s ongoing credentials as a tough team to face, Chelsea Women spent a few minutes studying their UEFA Women’s Champions League opponent. Once it was clear the visitors were playing for the draw from the start, the Blues tried to unleash everything at them.

Issue is the Blues weren’t at their best in front of the goal. We dominated possession in every third of the pitch but we were unable to hit the ball on target. The best chance was a Erin Cuthbert attempt that hit the crossbar and the goal line, but never crossed it.

The beginning of the second half had Chelsea a bit sharper with their possession, but still not accurate with their shots. Häcken were still very comfortable with the draw, and their structure was very hard to break down without a player such as Lauren James on the pitch.

Lauren entered the match as a substitute for Johanna Rytting Kaneryd on the 64th minute, under many cheers from the sole Stamford Bridge stand opened for the public. Her entrance did leave Häcken somewhat unorganized at times. But it wasn’t enough to breach them.

After Sam Kerr got the potential opener nullified by offside, Chelsea were no longer a sharp side. We were taking too long to try shots at goal and even when we tried them,

We tried and tried and still we failed. Chelsea were eager to immediately get back to winning ways after the Arsenal upset last weekend, but they won’t be there today.

  • Zecira Musovic starts as goalkeeper, with Ann-Katrin Berger not even on our bench. Kadeisha Buchanan takes the centre-back role in place of Maren Mjelde next to Jess Carter, and Sophie Ingle starts in midfield to partner up with Erin Cuthbert.
  • Subs are Sjoeke Nüsken for Erin Cuthbert, Lauren James for Johanna Rytting Kaneryd, Aggie Beever-Jones for Guro Reiten, and Mia Fishel for Fran Kirby.
  • Chelsea have only themselves to blame for not scoring in the first half.
  • Strange decision from Emma Hayes to substitute Erin Cuthbert with Sjoeke Nüsken in the second half, as the former was really one of Chelsea’s best players. Meanwhile Nüsken had a cameo to forget.
  • Again, Chelsea have only themselves to blame for not scoring a single goal today.
  • Next up: Bristol City away in the Women’s Super League.
