More good news coming from the training ground this week as Chelsea prepare to visit Newcastle United on Saturday.
First off, Christopher Nkunku was pictured in full training on Wednesday and while he’s unlikely to start straight away after being out since the summer, his return now truly looks like it’s imminent. While we seem to have finally figured out how to score goals as of late, we never looked better in preseason than when Nkunku was the creative fulcrum of the team, so I’m definitely excited to see what he can bring to the team, combining with (some or all of) the current starting trio of Cole Palmer, Raheem Sterling, and Nicolas Jackson.

Additionally, Wesley Fofana confirmed on his own Instagram that he was back on the training ground yesterday, for the first time since tearing his ACL in preseason. It’s just over four months since he suffered the injury and underwent the necessary operation to replace the torn ligament, so this is amazing progress indeed. We’ve certainly come a long way in rehabbing ACL injuries!
I would guess that Wes is still many weeks away from getting back to full fitness, and especially full match fitness, but he may yet make some significant contributions during a season that looked fully lost to him not that long ago.
