The Daily Hilario: Introducing The Daily Aubrey-Maturin

Your daily dose of off-topic shenanigans.

I AM THE CAPTAIN NOW

For the next 66 days or so, until the start of the new Premier League season — or until I give up my pet project, whichever comes first — the DH will have a slightly different theme and look.

I’ve decided to force myself to get back into the habit of reading (yes, “books”, I think they’re called?), which I haven’t done regularly in some 20-25 years. That feels like yesterday to me, because I’m old. But it’s actually quite a long time, thus my oldness. And to hold myself somewhat accountable, I’m going to recount in broad strokes what I’ve read that day (well, the day prior, technically) on this here blog. This is an executive decision; like Captain Jack, I am the master and commander of this here blog’o’ship. (Sorry, TMIL)

I’ve never read any of the Aubrey-Maturin series (seen the one most excellent movie though), so I bought the omnibus (all 20+1 novels) totaling about 6600 pages. Diving right in! The new season starts August 6, so that gives me about 66 days: 100 pages/day, give or take.

The fun begins tomorrow, with 12-pound cannons Chapters 1-3 of Book 1, “Master and Commander”.
