Marcos Alonso backs Saúl Ñíguez to be ‘of great help’ to Chelsea

This season, and hopefully beyond

It might just be one of the smartest moves made by Chelsea in recent summers, adding Atlético Madrid midfielder Saúl Ñíguez to the squad on a season-long loan, which also includes a €40m buy-option.

Saúl left the Spanish champions looking to recover the form that had made him one of the most solid young midfielders in Europe. Spain national team (and Real Madrid academy) teammate Marcos Alonso has no doubt that he will do just that, rising to the challenges of the Premier League.

“I know Saúl from the national team, and also we shared a manager from when we were in the Real Madrid academy.

“He’s a great player. His conditions are going to be good for the Premier League. He is strong physically, he is very good in the air, and those are things you need when you move to this league.

“He is ready to kick off and hopefully we can take advantage of his qualities and he will be of great help to the team, because it’s going to be a long year, with a lot of competitions.”

He will fit right in!
