Chelsea 0-1 Manchester City, Player Ratings: Mendy keeps Chelsea in it

Community player ratings from Chelsea’s first defeat of the season

1. ÉDOUARD MENDY (8.1)

Another busy day for Mendy, after six-save efforts against both Liverpool and Aston Villa. While officially he only made three saves in this one, they all came in the second half as he tried his best to keep Chelsea in it, the one on Grealish’s tight-angle shot perhaps the best of the bunch.

Mendy did get beaten for the first time in open play since the Super Cup, but it needed a massive stroke of misfortune by way of a deflection.

2. THIAGO SILVA (7.5, sub)

After a Man of the Match performance against Spurs last weekend, Silva produced yet another stellar outing, in his first game as a 37-year-old. His introduction on the half hour after Reece James’ injury probably made Chelsea even better defensively — though it probably stunted our attacking potential a bit. But that’s not on Silva, who was nigh faultless, losing out maybe once all game?

3. ANTONIO RÜDIGER (7.1)

Another typical Rüdiger performance — on the ball, off the ball, in their heads — missing only the hilarious piledriver from about 40 yards.
