Crystal Palace’s match against Tottenham Hotspur led to a major upset, of sorts, with the Eagles running riot in a 3-0 drubbing at Selhurst Park. Palace were dominant from the off, even before Spurs went down to ten men early in the second half after Japhet Tanganga got a second yellow card.
Chelsea loanee Conor Gallagher was as instrumental as it gets to Palace’s performance, running the show in midfield, winning a penalty, and also providing an assist. While the penalty was largely thanks to Ben Davies’ lapse in concentration as he tried to block a cross with his outstretched arms, the assist that Gallagher provided was all down to his own sublime vision and execution as he gave a perfect through-ball to Odsonne Édouard, who marked his Palace debut with a brace.
Gallagher, who featured as the most advanced midfielder in Patrick Viera’s 4-3-3 formation, now has 2 goals and 1 assist in 3 Premier League matches this season.
Spurs had been a perfect three-for-three coming into the weekend, but now give others, including Chelsea a chance to move top of the league with a win.
Thanks, Gallagher (and Guéhi)!
