Conor Gallagher is off to a blistering start at Crystal Palace. After not being eligible for their first match of the season since that was against Chelsea, he’s started all three games since, playing every Premier League minute, earning rave reviews in the process already.
And yesterday, he turned it up a notch or three or more, getting on the scoresheet twice as Palace held high-flying West Ham United to a 2-2 draw at the Olympic Stadium. The Hammers came into the weekend as one of the five teams with a perfect record from the first two games. (Now, only Spurs have a chance to go 3-for-3.)
West Ham took the lead twice, but were pegged back both times. The first time, Gallagher showed off his hustle and graft by finding a loose ball in the area from a Benteke header, taking a touch, and producing a clever and surprising finish with a quick spin. The second time, Gallagher showed off his technical abilities with a lovely Cruyff turn in the area to lose his defender and give himself time and space to pick out the corner of the net.
Technical, physical, mental: check, check, check. Triple threat, the young midfielder. And taking points off teams around us in the table!
“He has the ability to remain calm in the box, he’s a really good finisher. He has a lot of energy and works hard for the team. When he’s in this kind of situation he scores goals.
“[He] had a good loan last year. He did well. He’s a player who needs to play week in and week out and coming to us was a smart move for him. We will give him time to keep playing and keep performing. Today he showed a lot of quality on both sides of the game.”

Let’s hope this continues!
