Liverpool vs. Chelsea, Premier League: Preferred lineup

Chelsea will look to make it three wins out of three when going up against title-rivals Liverpool in the last game before the first international break of the season. A trip to Anfield is never easy and Jürgen Klopp’s men have enjoyed a similarly good start to their campaign. Perfection is needed.

THE PEOPLE’S CHOICE

The WAGNH community were very firm in their choices, and there were certainly no changes in the formation department — with the 3-4-3 easily disposing of the 3-5-2 (21%) and the 4-2-3-1 (5%) — or at goalkeeper, where UEFA Goalkeeper of the Year Édouard Mendy has 98% of the vote, underlining his status as the starter ahead of Kepa (2%) for the foreseeable future.

At the back, the trusty combination of Antonio Rüdiger, Andreas Christensen and César Azpilicueta stood firm against Arsenal and is chosen to do so again here. Thiago Silva (33%) continues to fight an uphill battle, alongside youngster Trevoh Chalobah (16%).

On the flanks, Marcos Alonso (34%) rotates out for Ben Chilwell as Reece James retains his spot ahead of Callum Hudson-Odoi (2%).

The midfield duo is comprised of UEFA’s Player of the Year and Midfielder of the Year, with Mateo Kovačić (16%) making way. Ethan Ampadu (1%) and Ruben Loftus-Cheek (1%), just recently out of self-isolation, remain on the fringes.

There was no doubt that Romelu Lukaku would be preferred to start up top, but he’s done so in impressive fashion with a team-leading 99% of the vote. He’s joined by the dynamic supporting duo of Mason Mount and Kai Havertz, who pips Timo Werner (44%) to that third spot. Hakim Ziyech (15%) remains an impact substitute while Christian Pulisic is still out.

3-4-3 (70%)
Mendy (98%) | Rüdiger (98%), Christensen (74%), Azpilicueta (79%) | Chilwell (62%), Jorginho (88%), Kanté (97%), James (93%) | Mount (90%), Lukaku (99%), Havertz (58%)

MY PREFERRED CHOICE

Never change a winning system ... but what about tiny adjustments? As the community, I also swapped in Kanté for Kovačić, as his brilliance will be needed against a strong Liverpool side. Chilwell’s pace is also be the better option going up against the likes of Mané and Salah.

Otherwise, I went with the same lineup that started against Arsenal.

COME ON, YOU BLUES!!!

3-4-3
Mendy | Rüdiger, Christensen, Azpilicueta | Chilwell, Kanté, Jorginho, James | Havertz, Lukaku, Mount
