Chelsea’s biggest test of this opening slate of three Premier League matches, before yet another international distraction, is this weekend’s trip up to Anfield to take on Jürgen Klopp’s Liverpool, who are surely intending to have a better season than last year’s disappointing third place with nary a whimper of a title challenge.
Once again healthy and out of the gate just as quickly as Chelsea — in fact, we have identical records after the first two games, down to goals scored and conceded, even — Liverpool will want to head into the break with a perfect record and establish their early-season credentials as strong title-contenders. Chelsea will surely be looking to do the same.
The stage is set for a big game, with a big result on offer, potentially.
Fortunately, our only concern fitness wise at the moment are the two players who have been in COVID protocol. Ruben Loftus-Cheek should be ready to emerge from his 10-day isolation, but Christian Pulisic probably has to stay in for a few more days.
