Bring it on!

Chelsea finished last season with a trophy and have a chance to begin the new season with more silverware immediately, as we take on Europa League winners Villarreal in the UEFA Super Cup on Wednesday night.

Obviously, this trophy is not nearly as important as the one that got us into this game, the Champions League’s Big Ears, but we play to win the game and play to win any and all trophies available. And while many in the team are fairly new to trophy collecting, Thiago Silva certainly is not — but still wants it just as badly as anyone else.

“It is the beginning of the season, but the Super Cup is a match to top last season’s achievements. We will face a very competitive team in Villarreal, it will a tough game, but we will get on the pitch to lift this trophy. We have everything in place to do our best, so we need to work hard to reach our best form to play a great match and get our hands on the trophy.”

Silva may not play in this game since he has just returned from summer holidays following his involvement in the Copa América with Brazil, but he and the rest of the late returnees will have to get up to speed and match fitness rather quickly. The new Premier League season starts this weekend, and the challenge is now even greater than last season, both on a collective and on an individual level.

“I evaluate the season with a positive grade, because we were champions of the main title in the continent, a title that the team had not won since 2012. I could not imagine beginning my Chelsea career in a better way.

“The Premier League is really everything I imagined, the competitiveness is gigantic. Before the season begins we have at least eight teams with a real chance of winning the title, which is very different from most league competitions in the world.

“The game in England is rough, I am really enjoying it. I hope we have an incredible season.”
