Confident ambitions

It’s a massive summer for Christian Pulisic, his first real preseason with Chelsea, and he’s looking to grab the new season by the proverbial horns, full of fitness, confidence, and ambition.

The 22-year-old has had a bit of an inconsistent time at Chelsea since joining two years ago, thanks in no small part to his more than fair share of injuries, but he’s still played a crucial role in our successes, especially towards the end of each season. Playoff Pulisic now wants to use those successes for further glories.

“To be the champions of Europe, it wasn’t an easy journey. We’ve seen now that we can compete with those top teams, so there’s no reason why we shouldn’t feel that way. [City] were one of the best teams last season and to beat them a few times gives us confidence. We have such a strong squad, so I would say anything’s possible.”

With external reinforcements looking unlikely at the moment, especially in attack, we will need our young guns, including Pulisic, to raise their games not just in quality but in consistency as well. If we do that, our ambitions of a title challenge might just become a reality.

“That’s a great thing about our team, that we have so much depth and so many strong players. We have so many games that you’re going to get your time, so it’s just about making the most of your chances.”

“Staying healthy is definitely a big target of mine, and trying to be available as much as I can to continue to help my team and make a big impact.”

Thomas Tuchel has urged his team to forget the success of last season, especially that historic night in Portugal just a little over two months ago. But perhaps we can remember it as inspiration to do even better this year.

LFG!
